Stay Cool This Summer: Outdoor Edition

Swing into Summer with these Outdoor Activities

When the sun is shining, you can bet we’re soaking it up! We’ve rounded up a collection of outings to keep the whole family comfortable, entertained, and excited to do it all again. There’s always something new and we’ve got the scoop with our online calendar here.

Splish Splash

Take a day trip to Jubilee Lake. You will not regret the incredible views! There’s paddleboarding and kayaking or take it a step further and camp by the lake. Bring your sunscreen, snacks and dip in the water to cool off. Want to stay a little closer to town? Bennington Lake has got you covered, especially with Adventure-Fit rentals ready and waiting for you. More pool-people? Never fear! The Veteran’s Memorial Pool & Park is an outdoor aquatic center perfect for recreational activities and serious swimmers alike.

Take a Hike

You don’t have to be in water to stay cool! We’re serious about Jubilee Lake…there are epic hiking trails including a nice ~3 mile loop that will give you the scenery you crave and the fresh air you need. Bring your hydration and call it good! If you love a slower paced day of fishing, Fishhook Park is home to many species of fish. Mill Creek Sports Complex and Rooks Park is great family fun, too. There are paved trails along Mill Creek to explore and several playgrounds for all ages to enjoy.

Patio Season

If your idea of being “outdoorsy” involves excellent beverages and bites on patios…you’re in the right place for that, too! We love some afternoon beer and burgers at Burwood Brewery. Their spacious fenced yard is set up with picnic tables, cornhole and other outdoor games. More of a wine person? L’Ecole No. 41 is one of Walla Walla’s most established wineries and is housed in an old Frenchtown schoolhouse. The kids can fly on the swingset while the parents enjoy wine tasting on the patio.

Stay cool in the shade in Walla Walla with live music and outdoor seating that give you that dose of fresh air without all the effort. Check out the summer concert series at Walawála Plaza, Fridays & Saturdays at Tranche, and of course music at wineries. Browse the online event calendar to show you everything that’s happening. Also check out a drive-in movie theater when the sun starts to set at Milton-Freewater Drive-in and Walla Walla Sweets Baseball games.

Summer is one of the most diverse seasons in Walla Walla because we have options for everyone, everywhere. Take your vacation outside and inside and never finish off your wishlist. Guess that means you’ll just have to extend your stay!
