Best of
Best Small Town for Food

Two years after being recognized as "America's Friendliest Small Town" by Rand McNally,  Walla Walla is hopeful that the public will support its effort to claim culinary supremacy by casting votes daily online at  www.bestoftheroad.com.

Home to Washington's official state vegetable (the Walla Walla Sweet Onion), Walla Walla is considered the capital of Washington wine country and one of the most agriculturally rich communities in the Pacific Northwest. The Valley's agricultural roots have helped foster a culinary industry that is almost unheard of for a community of 31,500 people. Walla Walla's culinary scene, which counts a James Beard Foundation Best Chef nominee among its current chefs, also features the acclaimed Wine Country Culinary Institute.

Meet Tammie.

Tammie has been an ambassador at the Walla Walla Visitor Center for 2 years. Her favorite thing about being at the Visitor Center is meeting new people from different parts of the country, and learning how they found out about Walla Walla.

She is originally from Seattle, but moved to Joseph, Oregon and worked for the U.S. Forest Service as an emergency dispatcher for 12 years.

When her only daughter, Hannah, heads off to Portland State University next month this self-proclaimed outdoor girl, dog trainer, avid wildlife watcher who loves to walk for exercise will be spending more time with her four year old pit bull, Freya, a rescue from the BlueMountain Humane Society (BMHS)
and her 13 year old cat, Oreo, also adopted from the BMHS.

The Tourism Walla Walla Visitor Center is open daily from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. May through September, and Thursday-Sunday, October through April.  877-998-4748.
