Sweet Reflections
Sweet Reflections brightens the corner of Colville and Main with thousands of small pieces of mirrored glass. It resembles a copper-tinged mirror ball shimmering in the sunlight, accented by a foiled copper stem on top.
Only a few people know the secret of how many pieces of glass cover Sweet Reflections, and they’re not telling... Enter your guess in the Sweet Onion Contest!
The Artist
Gilded Glass
Gilded Glass is a Walla Walla company specializing in glass artwork. They create unique art objects and stained glass windows, often accenting glass with decorative metals. Their stained glass windows complement a number of homes and buildings around town, and will grace the new winery incubator buildings near Walla Walla’s airport.
Floyd Bunt, Jr., Nancy MacDuff, and Ronnie Williams designed Sweet Reflections collaboratively. During the planning phase, the artists deliberated over the best way to completely cover the three-dimensional fiberglass frame with sharp, two-dimensional glass in a way that would resist the weather. Floyd, Nancy, and Ronnie were then joined by several students to construct Sweet Reflections in their studio.
“Most people don’t think of stained glass when it comes to art,” says Floyd Bunt, Jr. He saw Sweet Onions on Parade as an opportunity to highlight a different medium in public. Check out more pictures and details on the blog that chronicles the construction of Sweet Reflections.
