A vast and rich array of arts abounds in the Walla Walla Valley, from regal bronze
sculptures to quality theatre, to top flight musical festivals – the Valley has it all!
A bounty of theatrical productions provides playgoers with excellent choices from an
abundant number of venues. Harper Joy Theatre on the Whitman College Campus
is the perfect setting for the drama department’s bevy of productions. Walla Walla
Community College also brings its theatrical flair to the new Performing Arts Center.
The quaint Little Theatre serves as the home of the community theater company,
serving up a steady schedule of supreme productions. The renovated Power House
Theatre is one of the country’s only authentic Shakespearean Theatres, designed as a
near replica of London’s Black Friar’s Theatre, the initial home of the bard’s productions.
Power House serves as one of the venues for the Shakespeare Walla Walla festival
each August along with the scenic Fort Walla Walla Amphitheatre. Power House also
presents many non-Shakespearean productions throughout the year.
The Walla Walla Symphony is the longest running symphony west of the
Mississippi, providing a full season of classical masterpieces in addition to its widely
popular “Discovery Series” and intimate chamber concerts.
The Valley has also become the home to several annual music festivals. The two-
week Chamber Music Festival fills Walla Walla with wonderful sounds through a
variety of venues: open rehearsals, free public concerts, scenic wine tasting rooms,
special events and traditional music hall concerts. The June event is now a Walla Walla
tradition.
For jazz lovers, “Jazz and Wine Among Friends” is a perfect weekend. Occurring the
last week in August, the festival serves up 3 great days of authentic jazz. On Friday
night, you can hear 5 bands at five different cozy venues for the price of just one ticket.
Saturday brings the featured concert with a big name headliner performing in a beautiful
outside setting. On Sunday, a traditional New Orleans Jazz Buffet closes out the
musical weekend, serving up great tunes and fabulous food.
Numerous talented artists make Walla Walla their home, resulting in the Friday night
ArtWalks and a large selection of showings throughout the year. The flourishing Walla
Walla Foundry produces regal bronzes that are situated throughout the downtown area.
More than a dozen sculptures from a variety of artists adorn the historical sidewalks of
Downtown Walla Walla. Public art is found at every corner, including world renowned
artist, Tom Otterness’ wagon trail bronze at Pioneer Park.
